What you receive

A polished PDF generated in seconds from your selections and published to your secure Wi Filings customer portal, plus free self-service revisions for 7 days. Your email says the document is ready and links to the portal; the legal document is not attached to the email.

Classification notice: Facts of the relationship control classification under applicable law. This agreement documents the parties’ selections; it does not make someone a 1099 contractor. Wi Filings LLC is not a law firm and does not provide legal or tax advice.

1. Start your agreement

You’re creating: 1099 Contractor Agreement — $59

Select the supported state that applies to the client, contractor, and primary work.

This streamlined product is for a same-state engagement: the client, contractor, and primary work must all be in the selected state. My state isn’t listed or this is a multistate engagement — view the $59 general fill-in template. The general template is not state-specific and must be completed and reviewed before signing.

Blank mode is on: deal-term fields are disabled below and will print as ruled blanks. Clause choices such as intellectual property and confidentiality remain selectable so the agreement stays internally consistent.

2. Tell us about the parties and project

Plain-English labels are shown first; the final agreement uses the conventional terms Client and Contractor.

If the contractor does create designs, writing, code, or photos, the law’s default gives ownership to the contractor when the agreement is silent.

Confirm the notice addresses: Both notices will go to the same email address. This is allowed; confirm it is intentional.

3. Is this a good fit?

Review these considerations before deciding whether this self-help document fits your situation. Different legitimate contractor relationships may answer them differently.

  • This agreement documents the parties’ intent to use a non-employee contractor relationship; the real working relationship still controls classification.
  • The base agreement says the contractor controls its business operations while the project terms describe services, results, deadlines, and acceptance. Compare that language with the parties’ intended arrangement.
  • If the parties have specific arrangements for tools, equipment, workspace, or other resources, describe them clearly in the services, deliverables, payment, or out-of-scope terms.
  • This base agreement is non-exclusive and says the contractor may serve other customers. Review whether that matches the parties’ intended arrangement.
  • Licensed, regulated, or professional services may require additional terms, disclosures, permits, or documents under the rules that apply to that work.
  • An existing or threatened dispute may make a basic self-help agreement less useful for resolving the parties’ concerns.
  • This product does not include a non-compete or non-solicitation clause, custom drafting, or advice about classification, tax, legal, or financial strategy.

These are considerations, not a pass/fail test. The facts of the working relationship determine classification. Wi Filings does not decide classification or provide tax, legal, financial, or business-strategy advice. You decide whether this agreement fits your situation.

Independent contractor agreement questions

What does this independent contractor agreement cover?

It records your selections for services, deliverables, payment, expenses, intellectual property, confidentiality, insurance and termination. The guided builder inserts the party details and chosen terms; the general template leaves its fields blank for you to complete.

Can a freelancer buy the agreement instead of the client?

Yes. Either party can purchase. Choose “I’m the contractor purchasing this agreement” in the builder and enter both parties’ correct details. A purchase does not sign the document for either party.

Does buying a 1099 agreement file a tax form or determine worker status?

No. This product generates a contract PDF; it does not file Form 1099-NEC or determine worker classification. The facts of the working relationship control classification. Wi Filings is not a law firm and does not provide legal or tax advice.

Can I use the guided builder for every state or a multistate project?

The guided builder currently supports the 11 states listed above, with Wisconsin served separately. The client, contractor and primary work must share the selected state. Other-state and multistate buyers can purchase the general fill-in template, but purchasing it does not make it tailored to local rules or your circumstances.

What can I review before payment, and what do I receive afterward?

Before payment, review your answers, a short sample and the key-term summary. After verified payment, the complete PDF is generated and delivered to your secure customer portal. Review the full document and complete any blanks before signing. This is a one-time purchase. The personalized agreement includes free self-service revisions for 7 days; the blank fill-in template does not include that revision feature.
