Refund & Correction Policy
Plain-English answers on when our service fee is refundable, how the Wisconsin DFI state fee works, and what happens if something goes wrong. Effective May 30, 2026.
We want you to feel confident filing with Wi Filings. This page explains exactly when our $79 service fee is refundable, how the $130 Wisconsin DFI state filing fee works, what we do if we make a mistake, and how registered agent renewals are billed. Please read it before you order — placing an order means you agree to these terms.
Quick summary
- Before we submit to the Wisconsin DFI: full $209 refund — we absorb the Stripe processing fee.
- After we submit: the $130 state fee is paid to Wisconsin and is non-refundable. Our $79 service fee is refundable only where we made an error.
- If we make a mistake: we correct it at no extra service charge and cover any extra government fee directly caused by our error.
- Registered agent renewals (year two onward): $169/year, billed once per year on or near your formation anniversary. Cancel any time before the next charge by emailing [email protected].
1. Before we submit to the Wisconsin DFI
If you have placed an order but we have not yet submitted your Articles of Organization to the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions (“DFI”), you are entitled to a full refund of the $209: our $79 Wi Filings service fee plus the $130 Wisconsin DFI state filing fee that you prepaid through us (since we have not yet remitted it to the state).
Note on processing fees: Stripe charges us a non-refundable processing fee of roughly $6–$9 per transaction and does not return that fee when we refund you. We absorb that cost on cancellations — you get the full $209 back.
2. After we’ve submitted, but before the DFI decides
The Wisconsin DFI typically takes 1–5 business days to process a filing. Once we have submitted your filing:
- $130 state filing fee: non-refundable. It has been paid directly to the Wisconsin DFI on submission and is controlled by the state. We cannot recover it once submitted.
- $79 service fee: our preparation and submission work is complete, so the service fee is not automatically refundable during this window. If you have changed your mind, contact us — we sometimes offer a partial refund as a case-by-case goodwill gesture, but it is not a public commitment.
If something has gone wrong or you have a question, please reach out before requesting cancellation — most “should I cancel?” moments are actually questions we can answer in a few minutes.
3. After the DFI approves your filing
Once your LLC is formed, the work is complete:
- The $130 state fee is non-refundable (it belongs to the State of Wisconsin, not us).
- The $79 service fee is non-refundable, except where the issue was caused by our error (see Section 4).
- Your formed LLC, EIN (if purchased), and any included documents are yours to keep.
If you want to dissolve a newly formed LLC, that is a separate filing handled directly with the Wisconsin DFI and is not covered by this refund policy.
4. If we make an error
If your filing is delayed, rejected, or otherwise incorrect because of a mistake on our end — for example, a typo we introduced, a missing required field we failed to include, or a misrouted submission — we will:
- Correct and resubmit at no additional Wi Filings service charge;
- Cover any additional government filing fee that the DFI charges directly because of our error, up to the original $130 state-fee amount (this coverage is limited to the actual government fee charged by the DFI; it does not extend to consequential damages or lost profits); and
- Refund the original $79 service fee on request if you would prefer that to a correction, or in full if our error caused the filing to fail entirely and cannot be corrected.
“Our error” means a mistake introduced by Wi Filings, not a mistake in the information you provided to us. If the information on your order form was inaccurate or incomplete, see Section 5.
5. If the Wisconsin DFI rejects your filing
The most common rejection reason is a name conflict — Wisconsin requires your LLC name to be distinguishable from existing entities on record. Other reasons include missing or invalid registered agent information, missing signatures, or formatting issues.
If the rejection is not caused by our error:
- We will work with you to revise the filing (for example, choosing an available name) and resubmit at no additional Wi Filings service charge.
- Government fees on resubmission are controlled by the Wisconsin DFI, not by Wi Filings. Depending on the rejection reason and the DFI’s policy at the time of resubmission, the state may or may not require a new $130 filing fee. We pass through whatever the state charges — we do not mark it up. If the DFI requires a new state filing fee, that fee is your responsibility, and we will tell you in writing what the DFI will charge before incurring any new state fee on your behalf so you can decide how to proceed.
- If you choose not to resubmit, the original $130 state fee may or may not be refundable by the State of Wisconsin under its own policies; we do not control that decision.
Wisconsin DFI fees and refiling policies are set by the State of Wisconsin and may change. The amounts and rules described here reflect DFI policy as of the date of your order; the current DFI policy at the time of your resubmission controls.
6. Registered agent service
When you form your LLC through Wi Filings and select “Use Wi Filings as my registered agent” at checkout, year-one registered agent service is included at no additional charge for 12 months from the date the DFI approves your LLC. If you selected “Use my own address” at checkout, no registered agent renewal applies and nothing will be charged for RA service.
Annual renewal (year two and beyond)
- Registered agent renewals are $169 per year, billed once per year on or near the anniversary of your LLC’s approval date.
- We will email a renewal reminder before each renewal charge to the email address on your account. The reminder states the date, the amount, and how to cancel.
- You may cancel future renewals at any time before the next charge by emailing [email protected] or by switching to your own address through your dashboard. There is no minimum term and no cancellation fee.
- Once a renewal has been charged, the renewal fee is non-refundable. To avoid the next renewal charge, cancel before the renewal date.
Important: cancelling your registered agent service does not, on its own, end Wisconsin’s requirement that your LLC maintain a registered agent. If you cancel, you must designate a new registered agent with the Wisconsin DFI to keep your LLC in good standing. We will continue acting as your agent only until the end of the period you have already paid for, or until the DFI records a replacement, whichever comes first.
7. Other services
- EIN service ($49): full refund before we submit to the IRS. Non-refundable once the EIN has been obtained, since the work is complete.
- Annual report filing ($75 total: $50 service + $25 state): full refund before submission. After submission, the $25 state fee is non-refundable; the $50 service fee follows the same tiered rules as LLC formation in Sections 1–3 above.
- Document services (operating agreement, contractor agreement, certificate of good standing requests, etc.): full refund before we begin preparation. Non-refundable once the document has been delivered, because the document is yours to keep.
8. How to request a refund
Email [email protected] from the email address on your order. Include your order number (or the LLC name on the filing) and a short note about what you would like refunded and why. We respond within 1–2 business days, and approved refunds are issued to your original payment method within 5–10 business days (the exact timing depends on your bank).
9. Please talk to us before filing a chargeback
If something feels off about your order, please email us before filing a chargeback with your bank. We read every email, our policy above is intentionally more generous than most filing services, and we would much rather make it right directly than work through a dispute that’s slow and expensive for both of us.
Questions? Contact us — we’re happy to walk through your specific situation before you order. Or read the full Terms of Service.
